Pastured Poultry

FREE-CHOICE Poultry - We raise pastured Turkey, Chicken, Duck and Geese.  Our birds choose what they eat and when they eat.  Poultry at our farm go in and out of their housing when they choose.  They decide what grasses and bugs they eat, they choose if they want to eat grain.  We provide them with fresh grass, a constant supply of organic grain, fresh water, clean housing, a place to roost each night and the protection from predators.

Your chickens always come home to roost, and the turkeys, ducks and geese do too.  All our birds have accommodations that protect them from predators, allow them to roost or nest and relax each night in a warm, safe place.  The chickens are fully grown in late summer, early fall and the turkey’s, ducks and geese are fully grown by late fall.

You may not know that in Ontario you have to purchase a chicken or turkey Quota if you want to sell chicken or turkey. Since we do not purchase quotas, we are only allowed to raise 300 chickens and 50 turkeys each year. What happened to the good old days when you grew what you could sell?

We do not purchase quota as we prefer to have more than one customer. As well, our feed and housing costs are much higher than a conventional farm. We think it is more important to grow the animals in a pasture based farm plan than raising more animals more quickly.

As a non-quota holder, I can’t market chicken off the farm or advertise that we sell them, so I just wanted to tell you that we do grow them, here, at the farm, and only 300. Thank you for listening, I feel better now, knowing you know, that we grow chicken!

Each year we raise geese, and have a few mating pairs of Geese and Ducks that live on the farm full time.

We raise both Muscovy and Peking, and it is so fun to watch them play out on the fresh green grass.

I had never tasted duck until we grew our own and I am smitten with duck. Check out the Recipe section for a quick Roast Duck Recipe. I wonder if the enjoyment of grass-fed duck has not yet been discovered. I implore you to try it.

Everyone should get the chance to try something new!

Take Care and care about what’s on your fork, we do!
