We sell our grass-fed beef by the packaged pound, not the hanging weight of the animal. If you purchase meat by the hanging weight, you are paying for approximately 35% to 40% waste, like bones, gristle or unusable parts that are not used to get to the final cut & wrapped weight you consume.
How we grow our grass-fed beef!
We operate a small cow – calf operation and raise the beef cattle on our farm from birth to processing. To allow for marbling in the beef to develop naturally, each animal is 25 to 28 months before processing.
We process at local abattoirs, all our meat is inspected, custom processed to our (and your) specifications, packaged, labeled according to Provincial Inspection and Labeling Laws, and frozen.
The health of our animals is our first priority. We have developed a proactive approach to maintaining their health. Clean housing, fresh air, healthy pastures with a big variety of natural grasses and legumes and a healthy concoction of mineral, kelp and diatomaceous earth, work together to keep our animals healthy and happy. We cut, rake and bail enough hay from our land, and rented acres, (the neighbors) to sustain our heard over the winter. Our hay is full of fine perennial grasses, a good mixture of clover and legumes.
Our cattle receive about a cup of organic feed a week with kelp, mineral, and diatomaceous earth added. The kelp and mineral boosts their immune system and digestion and the diatomaceous earth is a finely ground shell that is used to reduce parasites. We clean their housing with an all-natural clay disinfectant. All of the mineral, kelp, diatomaceous earth and clay cleaner are certified organic from a local supplier and farmer.
All the grain we purchase is grown organically by a few farmers in Grey County. We make our living selling locally and do the same when purchasing. To us, every dollar we spend is a decision. We purchase, where possible, feed, animals, straw, pasture seed, and minerals from local farmers or suppliers. Our supplier in Elmira, Ontario is located farthest from our Farm, meeting the needs of our farm entire operation within 200 kms.
