Dragonfly Garden Farm

Dragonfly Garden Farm is nestled on 70 acres of native grassland in the heart of Grey County, south of Chatsworth, Ontario, just two concessions west of highway six. We purchased and moved to the farm in the spring of 2006, as migrants from “the city”. Why, I have no idea, except for the fact that it felt better than where we were and what we were doing. Even though, some days, I still miss my fake fingernails!

The story of Dragonfly Garden Farm began the day my husband proposed. It was not the official proposal; there was no ring to seal the deal or an official announcement. the proposal, “will you marry me” was blurted out quickly, unexpectedly and directly from his heart on a bench in a clearing beside a wooded trail in a city park.

I think he asked just to be sure that I would say yes prior to spending all that money on the style of engagement ring I was wishing for. He asked from his heart, and I answered directly from mine, without thinking, just straight out I said, yes of course. And then we realized what had just happened. It hit us and we leaned in for a celebration kiss that would signal the start our lives together.

At that exact moment, a dragonfly flew between our faces, circled around and disappeared into the woods. We were both startled, and I immediately realized, that was a gift, an acknowledgment from heaven that this is meant to be!

So, after getting married in May 2003, we followed the signs, and ended up here, in Grey County, as Farmers. I didn’t even see it coming. Within 7 months of making the decision to “give it a try, what would it hurt?” we had a farm, and jobs working off the farm, (to pay for the farm) and 4 new Hereford heifers standing in the field.

So as you can see the name of our Farm holds meaning for us. It existed before we even laid eyes on the property, but once we saw it, we knew this was the place to make our dreams come true. A little research on Dragonflies proves we made the right choice in the name of our farm adventure.

Dragonflies are skilled flyers, and no other insect or bird has the same maneuverability. They take risks and adapt to almost any environment. Dragonflies are always on the go and they spend much of their life in transition to become something beautiful, graceful and free. Proving that with skill, determination and the ability to adapt, you are free to gracefully fly.

So, from our hearts, and as the proprietors of Dragonfly Garden Farm, WELCOME!
